As I stare at the timer all I can see is 2:04. Two minutes and four seconds left until my journey on the treadmill comes to an end. Running has always been an escape for me. Something about digging down deep to complete the run instills in me a feeling that is so much more than just a sense of pride. Running a race allows one’s true colors to shine forth. Whether or not they are good or bad, these colors paint the picture that depicts a person for who they are. I would say that my painted picture is richly hued in a classified form.
Even though I personally run for my own enjoyment, running also has provided me an opportunity to showcase my values as an individual. Pushing through the moments of self-doubt and weakness certainly occur on a daily basis, as I work to go further and harder than the day before. I find myself always wanting progress, whether that deals with the total distance traveled or total time taken to complete a race. I personally strive for my goals out of pure passion for investing in myself. I want to persevere through the hard moments in life to gain new experiences and outlooks that can only better myself all around as an individual. This is why I want to involve myself in a career where I know I won’t be able to take the easy way out. I want a challenge, just like a race, to keep myself striving for something ultimately greater.
Running for my personal well-being is just the beginning of the ideas that intrigue me regarding a healthy, successful life in general. Diet and nutrition have also been key components of a never-ending love for health. It amazes me when I sit down and think about the self-control you have to have in today’s society in order to stay on track with a well-balanced diet. Avoiding substances that hurt one both physically and mentally is a daunting challenge that I hope to help others with.
When I look into the aspects of chemistry, the central science that bridges together all components of nature, I find that all my interests of improving one’s health are suddenly explained and intertwined. My ultimate goal of becoming a pharmacist falls perfectly into place with my interests and values. Helping others by improving their health, using background knowledge of chemistry, and applying that knowledge into the practice is something I’m just beginning to experience and enjoy. I’ve been working with this passion throughout the past year through my shadowing experiences at two separate pharmacies. One involves the retail aspect of working at a pharmacy while the other consisted of caring for inpatients at a hospital setting. Even though the differences in practice varied at both locations, the ultimate goal of helping the patient did not. Allowing one to obtain maximum health is something everyone should have the right to experience. This is why I not only push through tough times personally for my own benefit but for the overall benefit of others.
