Reference Get-to-Know Me
The career that I plan on pursuing is a Pharmacist. I personally want to overall affect someone else’s life through some way shape or form in the health field. At first I didn’t know quite for sure in what area of the field I could envision myself working, but as a junior I was introduced to the world of Chemistry! I then realized that if there was a career in which combined the two together, I would fit right in. Since discovering that I have wanted to become a pharmacist, I have shadowed and interned at various areas throughout the community. Currently I am enrolled in an online Pharmacy Technician Program in which I will have the option to become certified after finishing the class and an AP Chemistry class where I am expanding on my love for Chemistry. Since beginning both classes, I have come to learn more and more about myself and how my interests intertwine with the roles of a Pharmacist.
I would say that as my high school years have gone by, I have had a variety of interests, and for the most part I have stuck to my interests because of my enjoyment and passion involved. The ultimate first interest I had once I began high school was sports. If you knew me back in my freshman and sophomore years of high school, you would come to know my intense interest in athletics very quickly. I was an active follower of most professional sports teams from Minnesota, and you could always find me spending time either working out or at practice for either basketball, volleyball, or golf. As the years progressed though, I began to find myself wanting to be more involved in personal activities that could ultimately benefit an individual. Then, I realized with those skills gained I would be able to help and make different things for others. This is when my passion for reading, cooking, gardening, and crocheting began to take effect. In general though, I enjoy learning new things and then being able to apply the things I learned into my everyday life.
The majority of my high school years I have spent involved in sports, church activities, and again sports. I have learned a lot of life lessons through participating in sports. You truly learn who you are deep down when you are presented with a challenge you have to overcome. Whether that be with completing your time mile at a faster rate than your previous, finishing off the final few seconds of defensive pitter-patter, or never being discouraged after a loss, sports have provided me a myriad of life lessons. By also being involved in my local church, I have gained an in-depth look into my faith. I am now able to come up with my own opinions based on the morals I have established through attending church. Lastly, I have learned a great deal about the importance of volunteer work through my congregation. Putting in an effort to give something to others without receiving anything in return really opens up one’s viewpoint and perspective of the world. I know that the life lessons I have gained throughout high school will stick with me for the rest of my life. I also wouldn’t change any experience in my life throughout high school because of the life lessons I have learned and come to value.
The one accomplishment in my life in which I would say I am the most proud of is maintaining my position at the top of my class. I credit all of my classmates and their success with their work put forth at their own achievements. The caliber of class in which I have had the opportunity to preside in truly makes me feel grateful for the drive and competition I have had to experience throughout high school. The overall effort I have put forth and the results I have seen that show proper recognition for my efforts have made everything I’ve invested in my education worthwhile.
I plan on attending SDSU for the simple reason that it has one of the best pharmacy programs in the nation. If I wish to become successful at what I do, I feel as though it is only necessary to put yourself in the best position given your circumstances.
